About the region election

Region elections are held on the same day as the Riksdag election, the second Sunday in September every four years, and decide the composition of the region council (regionfullmäktige) in each of Sweden's 20 regions. Region councils are responsible mainly for healthcare and public transport. The threshold to enter a region council is 3% of the vote in that region, lower than the Riksdag's 4% national threshold. A candidate can be elected directly by personal vote, which requires at least 100 votes. Unlike the Riksdag election, where seats are allocated nationally, each region council is elected separately by that region's voters — the result in one region has no effect on the composition of any other.
